Project aim:

BioBitte — the initiative for increasing the proportion of organic produce in public kitchens — is carried out on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) as part of the Federal Organic Farming Programme (BÖLW). By providing suitable offers, BioBitte supports stakeholders from the worlds of politics, administration and practice in increasing the proportion of organically produced products used in public catering.

Activities of ECOZEPT:

As a regional partner of a’verdis, Ecozept designs and organises events for municipalities, independent cities and counties in all Bavarian administrative districts except Lower Franconia. These events provide the necessary information and incentives for increasing the procurement of organic food.

1. Initial events highlight the benefits and advantages of sustainable catering with organic produce in public sector establishments.

2. Networking workshops pool ideas from local authorities active in this area, developing concepts through to concrete implementation — i.e. integrating organic products into public institution catering services.

3. Dialogue forums aim to engage entire regions and industries, including catering-related topics.

Depending on requirements, Ecozept supports local authorities in successfully implementing the measures developed at these events.

Bio Regio Management in Munich 2

Munich's ‘Haus der Kost’ (House of Food), the Competence Centre for Sustainable Nutrition which opened in April 2024, has set itself the goal of increasing the proportion of organic food in out-of-home catering in the city of Munich. To this end, organic regional market structures are to be identified and strengthened and/or established and stabilised. In order to fulfil these tasks, a coordination office ‘Bio-Regio-Management für Lebensmittel in der Außer-Haus-Verpflegung’ (Management of regional organic food in the out-of-home catering) was created, which Ecozept and its subcontractors will continue to support for a further two years.
