Project aim:
BIOVALUE - Fork to farm Agent Based simulation tool augmenting BIOdiversity in the agri-food VALUE-chain is a research project supported by the European Union in the framework of the Horizon 2020 program. It aims to analyze the link between genetic diversity, food supply chain, environment, consumer preferences and health in order to increase crop biodiversity.  This project brings together 17 partners in 12 countries. The pilot crops studied are: buckwheat, lentil and peas and beans, tomato, eggplant, cucumber and sow thistle.

Activities of ECOZEPT:
ECOZEPT is responsible for different tasks:
(1) development of a framework for analyzing the impact of food value chains (from farmers to consumers) on cultivated biodiversity (2) assessment of consumer perception. We are also responsible for Work Package 9 on product certification and labelling. We are involved in various other tasks (development of innovative products, cultivation of genetic diversity on pilot sites and improvement of the links between biodiversity and food chains via the BIOVALUE tool).

Market potentials of innovative crops in Bavaria

Bavarian agriculture is adapting to changing climatic conditions and consumer habits. The list of crops that can grow under these new conditions is expanding (e.g. lentils, chickpeas, peanuts, sweetcorn, grain millet, buckwheat, quinoa, amaranth, sesame, etc.). The Bavarian State Research Centre for Agriculture (LfL) has set itself the goal of promoting the production of these innovative arable crops by exploring their potential for the production of innovative foods through research and knowledge transfer. In order to calibrate and orientate this support work, the LfL needs an assessment of the market potential.
