  • Client: Lorraine Regional Natural Parc, Brass Hop Bio partners
  • Country or region: France, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg
  • Department(s):
    Organic food markets
    Market research and marketing consulting
    Supply chains and territories

Project aim:

The Lorraine Regional Natural Parc and its partners launched the Brass Hop Bio project to establish an organic brewing industry across the Greater Region — Meuse, Meurthe-et-Moselle and Moselle (France); the province of Liège (Belgium); the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg; and Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland (Germany). The goal is to assess the current state of the existing industry, analyze the potential market for regional organic barley and hops among brewers, and the market for regional organic beers among consumers. The final step in this process is to collaboratively develop an action plan with and for the economic stakeholders (producers, cooperatives and collectors, malters and hop processors, and brewers).

Activities of ECOZEPT:

•    Consultations with local experts and a survey of economic stakeholders (agricultural producers, processors, including brewers) to assess the current state of the sector

•    Conducting a benchmarking study of other existing regional organic brewing sectors to gather feedback on their experiences

•    A consumer survey on their perceptions of and interest in regional organic beer, conducted through focus groups...

•    A dedicated survey of brewers regarding their interest in sourcing regional malt and hops

•    Facilitating a consultation workshop with stakeholders to draft a sector action plan
