Project aim:
True cost or full cost accounting is a powerful new tool to evaluate the sustainability of agriculture and food systems. The approach allows to measure external costs generated by the food system and to reflect upon ways to integrate these costs into the everyday economy. The aim of the project is to apply and to complete the methods that are developed world-wide in this domain in Switzerland.

Activities of ECOZEPT:
Ecozept establishes the link with several European research projects and the respective networks and provides a practical support concerning the interaction of the project “Truecost” with economy actors : workshop-concepts, methods, communication, moderation.

Food Costing and internalisation of Externalities for System Transition

Current food systems don’t reflect the true costs of food. In order to achieve sustainable food systems, the project’s objective is to develop tools, business models and policies to measure and value positive and negative external costs of food. By internalising climate, biodiversity, environmental, social and health externalities, these costs are going to be reflected in market prices and thus in the decision making of actors in food value chains. FOODCoST (Food Costing and internalisation of Externalities for System Transition) will guide business, policy makers and other actors to support the transition towards a sustainable food system. This EU-research project is coordinated by Stichting Wageningen Research (Netherlands).

Market potentials of innovative crops in Bavaria

Bavarian agriculture is adapting to changing climatic conditions and consumer habits. The list of crops that can grow under these new conditions is expanding (e.g. lentils, chickpeas, peanuts, sweetcorn, grain millet, buckwheat, quinoa, amaranth, sesame, etc.). The Bavarian State Research Centre for Agriculture (LfL) has set itself the goal of promoting the production of these innovative arable crops by exploring their potential for the production of innovative foods through research and knowledge transfer. In order to calibrate and orientate this support work, the LfL needs an assessment of the market potential.

Updating the regional database on organic farming in Baden-Württemberg

Ecozept has been commissioned by the Ministry of Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection (MLR) to comprehensively update the data on regional organic farming and the demand for organic food in Baden-Württemberg on the basis of the Ecozept-FiBL study "EVA - BIOBW 2030", published in 2021. The background to this is the further development of the "Action Plan Organic from Baden-Württemberg", for which the update provides an important data basis.

On the basis of this updated data, the MLR's measures for the expansion of organic farming can be designed to be as targeted and supportive as possible.
